Buying Carnivorous Plants is Addicting! (win free plants instead!)

I have just maybe spent too much money buying carnivorous plants. I got my seeds started, but of course that’s not enough. I have to buy larger plants to enjoy too. They’re not even here yet and I’m already excited! One seller was kind enough to send me pictures of the exact plants I will be getting, so I felt the need to show off. Here they are!

FTS Maroon Monster FTS Maroon Monster

This Venus Flytrap is a cultivar called FTS Maroon Monster. It grows very large and robust compared to most other all-red Venus flytraps and also becomes a deep maroon color. I have a serious thing for all-red Venus flytraps, so I’m really, REALLY excited for this! I’m getting three of these plants in total, the adult in the top photo and two smaller ones like the second photo.

I will also be receiving:

  • Dionaea Muscipula “Coquillage”
  • Dionaea Muscipula “BZ Razorback”
  • Dionaea Muscipula “Bristletooth”
  • Sarracenia Leucophylla (yay, I will have a leuco again!)

I’ll save the pictures of those for when I actually have them. This week will be in the mid to high 90s F so I am not entirely looking forward to potting them! Thankfully I will only need to pot the Leucophylla and the FTS Maroon Monsters. I still need to buy a big bag of perlite, as I only have a small bag of horticultural sand left. But at the same time, I can’t wait to get my new plants all set up in their new home!

But enough about me! I did say WIN FREE PLANTS!

Buying carnivorous plants while currently living in my tiny apartment with its tiny patio means I’ll be downsizing on my typical Venus Flytrap collection soon. I plan on holding a contest for giving them away in the next few months, after they have entered dormancy. This will be a great way to get a free starter plant if you’re a new grower! I am especially hoping to give new carnivorous plant enthusiasts a chance to own a Venus flytrap at no cost to them. Hopefully this will stave off the purchasing addiction that I’ve fallen victim to. 😉

Again, it will be a few months before I hold the contest. In the meantime, I may email you when I find out about sales, new changes to the website, general interesting carnivorous plant news, etc. So only sign up for emails if this is okay with you!

Honestly, I am WAY more excited about giving than receiving! I know the excitement of getting a new plant and want others to experience that. I am hoping to give away clones on a regular basis, perhaps every 3-4 months. I really need to keep my collection at a manageable size, but primarily I want to give back to the amazing online carnivorous plant community. I wouldn’t be where I am today without it, and I want to share the joy with others while taking some of the fears and uncertainty away.

And if you choose to subscribe, THANK YOU! This website is a young pet project that I’ve gotten pretty attached to, so I deeply appreciate the support!

I’m just now getting to the point in my adult life where I can finally grow plants without worrying about moving them once a year each time my lease runs out. I think its been a little while since you’ve written most of the posts I’ve been looking at, but I’d love to get one of your clones when its time to downsize next!
