Win Plants (from me!), Support a Great Cause! NASC Auction 2015!

I get SO EXCITED about fundraisers for carnivorous plant conservation! On a grand scale, these efforts are not so well-known, so any little contribution can have a HUGE impact! The annual benefit auction for the North American Sarracenia Conservancy is open now at Terraforums! Links and infor are at the bottom of this post. Yours truly has donated two divisions of of my biggest robust, Sarracenia plants to the auction!

First up is my Sarracenia flava var. cuprea. This is one of my largest divisions so don’t miss out!

Next up is a division of my Judith Hindle x flava var. atropurpurea. It hasn’t even been in the auction for a full day and the current bid is already triple my opening bid! 😀

If you’re interesting in winning one of these or the many other awesome plants up for auction, check out the links below!

By donating an auction item or bidding on plants, you’re supporting the preservation of the Sarracenia genus! Every effort helps to secure land for reintroduction into the wild, fights poaching of endangered species, preserve genetic diversity of these plants, and so much more!

I’m honestly not into “rah rah rah GOOD CAUSE! DONATE 1/3 OF YOUR SALARY TO COVER MY OVERHEAD!” fundraiser-y type stuff. And crowd funding? Fuuuhhh…. Don’t even get me started!

But causes like this, where the groups are small, passionate, dedicated, and their goals align with mine, I can totally get behind! The NASC is doing what I want to see in the world and I know where the money is going. So I am super proud to promote this and be a part of it! Feel to share this post and spread the word if you feel the same way!

Let me know if you have any questions in a comment below! I will post once more about another upcoming fundraiser in the near future! 😉

I have two questions for you today maria.1st question is how can i produce really good dew on my sundews? 2nd question is how can i set up a bog garden with carnivorous plants if they all use different dirt? 3rd and final question is what type of dirt would you recommend for my carnivorous bog garden? Thanks maria have a nice day.

      Hi Arturo!

      1) Make sure the sundews are getting enough light and enough water. They love LOTS of both things!

      2) For the reason you pointed out, I would suggest making a bog garden with plants that all like similar media. You can put Sarracenia, flytraps, and temperate sundews all in one bog, and they will thrive together happily! A Nepenthes or Pinguicula wouldn’t be so happy in there, so I just wouldn’t recommend it if you want your bog to last long term.

      3) The three example plants I mentioned above will all do happily in 50/50 peat moss and silica sand, or perlite if you can’t find the sand. 🙂

I hope that was helpful, Arturo! Good luck with your bog garden!
